Basswood Lake

Basswood Lake is a large border lake north of Ely, Minnesota in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. While Basswood Lake is the second largest lake in the BWCAW at 25,472 acres, much of the lake consists of long bays, including Jackfish Bay, Pipestone Bay, Back Bay, Hoist Bay, Wind Bay, and Bayley Bay. The northern and eastern parts of the lake are within Quetico Provincial Park.

Connections
- Prairie Portage bypasses a small dam to reach Sucker Lake and from there Moose Lake to the south or Knife Lake to the east.
- Basswood Falls flows into the Basswood River to the northwest. This eventually flows into Crooked Lake en route to Lac La Croix and beyond.
- numerous connections into the Quetico to the north.
- connections south out of the BWCAW towards Ely.
