French Lake

French Lake is a small lake in the eastern BWCAW. Portages lead from French Lake to Seahorse Lake to the north, Gillis Lake to the southeast, Fern Lake to the southwest, and Powell and Peter lakes to the west. The entire area around French Lake was burned in the Cavity Lake Fire of 2006, although some significant unburned patches remain. The lake covers 112 acres and is 135 feet deep. The lake contains a small population of lake trout, burbot, yellow perch, and white suckers. Stained water.
