Frost River

The Frost River flows west and northwest through the east-central BWCAW, from Frost Lake to Mora Lake. En route the Frost River alternates between muskeg swamp, small lakes, and short rapids.

Route

The Frost River is one of the few canoe routes, along with the Granite River, Tuscarora Lake, and the Phoebe River, which connect the eastern and central BWCAW regions.

From Frost Lake, a 130 rod portage leads west, bypassing the first 30 feet of elevation drop. This portage leads to a flat, marshy stretch of water. Beyond is Octopus Lake, Pencil Lake, and eventually Mora Lake which then connects to either Tuscarora Lake or Little Saganaga Lake, among others.

Watershed

Main article: Watershed

Frost Lake is the source of the Frost River, which flows west to Mora Lake. From there the drainage flows into Little Saganaga Lake, Ogishkemuncie Lake, Alpine Lake, and eventually Saganaga Lake via the Seagull River. This is part of the Hudson Bay watershed.
