Natural history

The Fourth of July Blowdown heavily damaged forests surrounding Skindance Lake. Most mature trees in this area fell during the 1999 windstorm. Regrowth has been vigorous, but trees are still young.

Most of the forests surrounding Skindance Lake, save the lake's southwestern corner, were burned in the Cavity Lake Fire of 2006.
