South Temperance Fire

On June 14, 1996, a lightning strike ignited the South Temperance Fire on the southeast shore of South Temperance Lake, west of Brule Lake in the southeastern Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. By the time the fire was contained, it had burned 4,450 acres between South Temperance, Brule, Vern, Homer, and Pipe lakes. Forests surrounding Juno, Whip, and Squire lakes were also burned.
