There are a number of different species of trees in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness:

Conifers
- Balsam Fir
- Eastern Whitecedar
- pines:
- Eastern White Pine, the tallest tree in the Boundary Waters, with dark gray bark and soft needles.
- Jack Pine, a "scruffy" pine tree dependent on fire for successful reproduction.
- Red Pine, or Norway Pine, a tall tree typically found on rocky ridges and islands.

- Tamarack
