BWCAW experience

I have been making canoe trips in the BWCA since around 1967 and, except for a period living in California in 1976-1982, continue to make a trip almost every year. Now at age 51, we have started renting light canoes (leaving my 3 heavy canoes at home) and go for short 5 day trips with at least one layover day. I worked in Ely for a canoe outfitter (Cliff Wold's) in the summers of 1972 and 1976, however my work mostly consisted of taking groups to the trail heads, cleaning and prepping camp gear, and some light construction for bunkhouses. I only got out for one or two trips each summer. I did on occasion have to manually reposition his stacked pile of 100 canoes, which probably gives me a pretty large count of canoe hoists over the years.

We are heading up to Seagull next week (8/9/06) and should see some of the fire damage but plan to head up to Sag and Ottertrack to avoid most of it.

About me

I live in St Paul and work at 3M Company, first as a Chemist and now as a Software Programmer. I have done quite a bit of PHP programming and played around with MediaWiki and wiki extensions and might be able to help with features for the BWCAWiki.
