Usergroups

Hi BlueCanoe... Wanted to let you know that I've added you to the sysop and Beauracrat usergroups. I actually have very little idea what that means, let me know if you figure it out! Have a great weekend, and thanks for all the hard work! -Gerg 14:59, 9 June 2006 (PDT)

Thanks, Gerg. I don't really know what that means either, although it looks like I have a few new options available: "protect", "delete", "block user", etc. -- BlueCanoe 11:11, 10 June 2006 (PDT)

I responded to your comment about the new background image. Thanks!

Maps!

Hey! I think I got a decent mapping solution worked out. It's not perfect, but it sure is easy to use.

Check it out on the Entry Points page. You'll also see the show map link above the other toolbar buttons. If you click on that, a Google Map interface will come up. Double-click somewhere and you'll get a red pushpin. Click on that and you can choose to insert a new map centered here. Clicking that will cause the initial code to be placed in the editing box wherever your cursor happens to be. Then double-click again elsewhere and click add point here to add a ponit. It will add the code to the box, and highlight the bit you need to replace with the point label.

You can read more about the extension and usage, and do troubleshooting, on its official page [1].

Enjoy! -Gerg 13:31, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

Nice work, Gerg. I think this embedded map strategy will be the way to go until someone volunteers a home-built GIS made with open source data. Which could happen. -- BlueCanoe 14:24, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

Have a Great Trip!

I've never been to the lakes you said you're heading toward, but I'm sure it'll be a blast! (How could you not?) Thanks again for all the hard work and committment to the wiki, and we'll "see" you when you get back! Get in touch if you're going to be in the Twin Cities at all.

Thank you.

BlueCanoe -

You posted a bit of a thank you to me regarding my humble efforts towards the bwcawiki and it took me (a wiki n00b) until now to figure out how to respond. Hopefully this is the correct avenue through which to post this.

You asked me some questions regarding my experiences with the BWCA and other related interests. A quick run-down on my history and current situation: I grew up in the Twin Cities, MN, attended college in Fargo, ND, spent four years in Whitefish/West Glacier, MT and now reside in Duluth (having moved here last fall). I've been backpacking for 6 or 7 years, logging over 900 miles last summer. My canoeing experience is limited to some overnight trips in my youth. I've never set foot in the BWCA but have done much research on the aspects of foot travel through it's vast acreage.

If all goes as planned I will be making the trek along the Border Route and Kekakabic Trails this fall. I completed the Superior Hiking Trail last spring and this will link a wonderful portion of an ultimate goal of mine to hike the North Country Trail in it's entirety.
